How to motivate yourself

Sometimes I just hard to find motivation. I absolutely love writing. but sometimes I just don’t have any idea what to write about. Besides that, it is very difficult to blog on a regular basis while you are still a student. Those are exactly the reasons why I haven’t posted any content in the last couple of months. But I don’t want to fill my website up with content I don’t like, just to ‘give’ my readers something. I don’t have a lot of readers, but the ones that do read my blog: THANK YOU!

So to get back to this blog post; I had a really hard time to motivate myself during these couple of months. Not only with this blog, but also going to school. I absolutely love my study, no doubt about that. But sometimes I just don’t have the motivation to go to school or just do anything that has to do with school at all. That’s why I decided to write a blog post about self-motivation. Not to only help myself, but also to help you. I did a lot of research and actually tried EVERYTHING in this list, so this should help! 🙂

Surround yourself with people who motivate you
It’s so important to be surrounded by people who motivate you. People who you can build on and people who you want to “be”. You obviously need to be yourself and need to stay true to yourself, but you can always look up to someone who just inspires you. It doesn’t have to be a friend of yours, but like a blogger you follow for a long time. I, for example, have Negin Mirsalehi as my role model. I have never met her personally, I have never spoken to her (I hope I will someday), but I’m impressed by how far she has come and I hope she will continue blogging, because she just inspires me to reach my goals. I’m not only talking about her business, but I’m also talking about het confidence and her “I-couldn’t-care-less” attitude. All of this just motivates me to do the same things, but in my own way.

I tried this one by removing some of my Facebook “friends”. I removed all the people who don’t really know me, or who I’ve never been friends with. Right now, I only have people who actually know the “real” me. Not the person who I was when I was still in high school. I’ve changed, dramatically. The person who I am today, will be the person who I will continue to be in the future. And maybe even a better version.

Don’t punish yourself when something goes wrong
Sometimes the things you want to make perfect, can’t be finished into something perfect. That’s not a huge problem. If it is finished and it’s good, that’s enough. It may not be exactly what you wanted but that’s just the way we have to live. Nothing is perfect, nobody is perfect. So don’t punish yourself when something doesn’t go the way you wanted it to go.

I’ve always been a perfectionist. I always felt the need to get good grades, my articles had to be perfect and just the way I wanted it. And that isn’t possible. I’ve punished myself by questioning myself. I always thought that if something wasn’t perfect it wasn’t good. That is probably one of the reasons why I wasn’t fully confident. Now that I don’t punish myself anymore, I feel good. I’m confident with my work; my articles and my photography.

CLEAN UP
I have to say, I’m a messy person. That has changed since I started my study in journalism, but it is still very hard to my room nice and tidy. That’s why I have a big clean up in my room every month, just to throw away the things I don’t have to use anymore. I hate cleaning up my room, but after I finished it I actually feel clear in my head and more focused. If I don’t clean up, I will just look around at the mess and think to myself: “Oh, I really have to clean this up… No, I’ll do it in an hour”. But that hour always turns into a day, or a few days. But it still lays there somewhere in your room and it will irritate you, so just clean it up!

What also will help while cleaning up your room, is to light candles and open your windows. This gives you fresh air and the candles will give your room a nice smell. Which will result into getting new inspiration and a lot of motivation. I love to light some wax melts, so my room will smell a lot sweeter. I got mine from my mom, because I love to light scented candles. I’ve found one which is sort of the same. Click here!

Sleep enough!
When you don’t sleep enough, you will feel tired and you have absolutely no motivation at all. When you sleep enough, you will dream which will give you more inspiration and creativity. With that creativity you will get a lot of motivation. Which will result into new and good ideas. So getting enough sleep is a huge priority if you want to get more motivation. Besides that, if you don’t sleep enough you have a bigger chance of getting sick or getting depression.

I sleep at least 6 hours per day, because I can’t sleep very well. But every person is different, so maybe you can only sleep 4 hours or you absolutely need 8 hours. That is totally up to you. Those 6 hours from me can peek up to 8 hours, because some days I just need a few hours more. There is one thing you need to know too: If you sleep too much, you will get more tired.
